Olympics Will Bring Kids into Sports… What Will Your Kid Learn?

Olympics Will Bring Kids into Sports… What Will Your Kid Learn? http://www.americantowns.com/ny/statenisland/news/olympics-will-bring-kids-into-sports-what-will-your-kid-learn-25481728

web-sports-lessons-front-coWith the Olympics around the corner, people will be signing their kids up in sports programs around the USA. What will these parent expect their kids to learn in these sports programs?

Past experience tells me that many expect their kids to become Olympians. I have told countless parents that it is easier to become a doctor or lawyer than it is to become an Olympic gymnast. There are only a handful of spaces every four years and your child must fit into the minimum age requirements.

It takes 20-40 hours of training a week for many years while balancing school, sleep, nutrition, and sometimes even a social life. This is an enormous commitment for not only the athlete, but for the entire family. Is that parent of that 5 or 6 year old thinking of this commitment when they rush into the gym to sing their kids up for training? Probably not.

What they CAN expect to gain from sports training for their child is more valuable. In a good program a child will learn many life skills and lessons. These young children will learn to balance time, that persistence pays off, they will improve their ability to focus, they will learn to take turns and share, be patient, and that it is ok to be uncomfortable to reach a goal. Your child may even learn that lack of effort does not help with progress and may even cause injury.

High level gymnastics coach has done it again, with another book. This one is a children’s book that has stories of young athletes who have learned life lessons through their sports. It is a great read for 6-10 year old girls. The sports included in this book include skating, skiing, swimming, gymnastics, cheerleading, boxing, martial arts, track, and dance.

Sports Lessons Learned: Life Lessons through Sports children’s sports book is sure to be a hit with your child athlete. It can be ordered through Amazon or purchased through most book retailers. This is very similar to the original gymnastics version, Gymnastics Lessons Learned.

Author Karen Goeller, CSCS, has written more gymnastics books than anyone in the USA. She has educated thousands in the gymnastics and fitness industries for many years in person as well as through her books and articles. She has produced countless successful athletes and currently trains athletes of many sports for performance, helping with strength, endurance, speed, flexibility, and most importantly confidence. Be sure to check out the new children’s sports book or reach out Karen Goeller if your child needs help. You can just type her name, Karen Goeller, into amazon to view her books (www.amazon.com/author/karengoeller) or go to her blog atwww.KarenGoeller.com.

Goeller on Three Staten Island TV Shows…

web-bosa-digenarro-potenza-Three Staten Island TV Shows…

I worked on Steve DiGennaro TV show Saturday, May 30th, Whatever Goes TV. It was such a great experience. I played a reporter and every actor and crew member was so professional. The writing was really good. I almost started laughing myself as we were filming. Steve, Lisa, and the other actors were so funny. It takes alot of work to put together a show like that. This is a remarkable team.

We were having a good day filming and then in the late afternoon who comes in? Hector Bosa from Home Invaders Variety Show. His plan was to be there a short time, but Steve put him to work! That was really funny. Hector being the wonderful guy he is jumped right in with a warm smile and super sense of humor. Hector is a super-funny TV host. If you have not seen his show, you must find some episodes on youtube! If you type in hector bosa on the youtube website you’ll likely find my interview on his show and you’ll see how funny he is.

And then we finish filming and who calls out my name? Johnny Potenza from Late Night with Johnny P Show. He said he was in the neighborhood so he stopped in to see who was here. One big TV family here on Staten Island. Always great to bump into Johnny P. You must check out his award winning show because you never know what will come out of his mouth next, he is hysterical!!! And his guests are always interesting and top quality.

I was on all 3 of their shows in recent years and loved each experience so to see all three of them together was a real treat. All 3 guys are really unique, talented, professional, and so much fun! Be sure to check out their shows and their websites.
